I believe one of the bravest things you can ever do is the work of understanding your own story. Because of that, I’m passionate about helping people find freedom and growth by rewriting the parts of their stories that have left them with a negative self image.

I am gentle and non-judgmental, but straightforward. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, where our relationship is a safe space to explore pain, shame, and trauma. I also believe that our struggles are opportunities for learning and growth. Understanding our stories deepens and reshapes our lives, and I can’t wait to hear yours. I transitioned to private practice after leaving a residential substance use treatment facility where I facilitated and managed the LGBTQIA+ programming.

Joseph Campbell said it best: “One way or another, we all have to find what best fosters the flowering of our humanity in this contemporary life, and dedicate ourselves to that.” This vision of “the flowering of our humanity” is at the heart of my therapeutic work. As an eclectic therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches to meet each client’s unique needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Existential Therapy techniques. My goal is always to create a warm, collaborative environment where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered. My areas of focus include helping clients explore their most authentic selves, deepening their spiritual connections when desired, and healing from the impact of narcissistic abuse by uncovering resilience and strengths gained through adversity. I am also pursuing certification in Integrative Mental Health, which emphasizes nutrition, lifestyle, and mind-body connection—tools that can enhance overall wellness. In addition, I enjoy supporting athletes across all sports in developing mental strategies that foster peak performance and steady growth. Beyond the therapy room, a background in competitive athletics, an ongoing study of spirituality, and a life rich with family and community all inform my perspective as a clinician. These experiences have helped cultivate balance, adaptability, and presence—qualities that directly benefit my work with clients and guide the way I support them in their own journeys.

My pledge to you as the client is to offer my unconditional respect and support through whatever life is throwing your way. Many obstacles can arise from transitional periods in life, and I find deep meaning in walking with others through these times that are often challenging or overlooked. My approach to therapy is shaped by experiences in community mental health, hospice grief care, substance abuse treatment, and university counseling. I have had the privilege of providing care for clients ages six through one hundred and one, with my most recent work being at the University of Mississippi Counseling Center. Sometimes words are inadequate to detangle the web of emotions and sensations that we carry. Perhaps it’s a point of chronic pain, spikes of anxious tension, or a knot in the stomach after a big change. I draw on evidence based techniques from somatic psychotherapy to help you move through what you’re feeling–mind and body. Other times, thoughts may run away in loops after a loss or difficult life event. With compassion and curiosity, we can explore cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to build your mental strength and choose thoughts that align with your values. My invitation to you is to step into the light with your story. In this space, there is no such thing as “too much” or “not enough.” You are welcome to come as you are, go at your pace, and know I will be on your team through every step.

>“We can’t have all of life’s answers. Rather, we all get stuck at times, left wondering how on earth we can fix what feels stuck or broken.”-Taryn

Taryn is trained in Marriage and Family Therapy and with this training believes that relationships matter. Whether it be the relationship you have with yourself or the family and friends around you, there is something significant about the relationships that inevitably mold us.

Taryn incorporates systems theory using a variety of methods, including mindfulness, emotionally-focused therapy, and internal family systems, to help her clients connect with themselves and others. She is holistic in practice, asking her clients to consider how they can become the healthiest versions of themselves and challenging them to take steps in that direction.

For the past 5 years, she has worked with individuals, couples, and families (as many as you can fit in a room) with a wide array of challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief. Despite her experience, she enjoys most, however, working with those who feel comfortable in her presence, placing people before their problems.

I have been practicing massage therapy since I was a little girl. I enjoyed giving back massages to my mom and foot massages to my dad. It made them feel so much better. As a child, I had no idea that this could be a life long profession.

When I found out that I could do this for a living and help others, I decided to get trained professionally. I finished schooling in 2004 and have enjoyed my profession since.

I started out in a spa setting in Tupelo, MS. Since then, I have traveled around the country working in different therapeutic environments from the relaxing spa setting to the world of palliative & hospice care. I have had the privilege of training with many great teachers and learning therapeutic techniques such as infant massage, cupping, myofascial release, Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue, prenatal, & Reiki. I am in the process of learning a Manual Lymph Drainage technique in which I hope to offer by October of 2021.

As I move forward with my career, my focus will continue to be on the Mind/Body connection. In our society, the two are often thought of as separate. But as I learn and grow, it is evident that these two work as partners. We need to have the awareness that our body affects our mind and vise versa. This is why I have chosen to be a part of The Wellness Center of Oxford. They have a mission to help people reconnect their mind and body for a holistic healing.

I look forward to a journey of healing with you.

Everything you need to do your healing work is within you, but as Carl Jung said “we don’t heal alone”. It is my privilege and honor to walk with you through your personal healing journey. I have over a decade of experience sitting with individuals of all ages who are processing a range of emotions from immense pain to stress from the daily struggles we all face. My specialty areas include mindfulness and play therapy.

My background in play therapy and expressive arts techniques allows me to effectively treat clients of all ages. Play is a child’s language. Through the use of play based interventions, children can express themselves in ways that they may not be able to with words due to their brain development. However, play and art are not only for children. I have experience using those techniques to help adolescent and adult populations access deeper levels of healing by tapping into their subconscious in order to begin working on the root of their concerns.

In addition to having a specialist’s degree and many years of experience using play and art in my therapy sessions, I also use mindfulness techniques to help children, teens, and adults improve their thoughts and feelings, and resolve unwanted behaviors. My research agenda focuses on using mindfulness protocols to reduce stress, improve mood, and reduce aggressive behaviors in adolescents. I believe in the power of intentional attention to change how we perceive and experience our lives.

With a background in as an experiential therapist, I know the power of traditional talk therapy, but also utilize experienced-based interventions including expressive arts and guided meditation.

With knowledge of and experience implementing various counseling theories and techniques, yogic tradition and mindfulness concepts, I am able to assist clients in creating a unique and dynamic plan for identifying and removing barriers to maintaining internal peace. Non-judgement, respect, and unconditional positive regard are always the underlying factor in my therapeutic relationships. I do not believe anyone can grow if they do not first believe they are worthy and capable of doing so- a place not often reached when feeling critiqued.

I strive to help my clients empower and equip themselves with the tools necessary for achieving their current and future goals. As Jon Kabat-Zinn said, “Wherever you go, there you are;” often we focus on ‘fixing’ specific events or situations only for another to arise in its place. My hope is that through the counseling process every person uncovers their innate ability to access peace despite any and all external events.

My name is Dean Worsham. And one thing I have learned is that life can be very tough at times. And, in those tough times, it is sometimes helpful to have a safe place to talk about it with someone. And to hopefully find a way through that suffering.

In 1998, I received a Master’s in Education degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Mississippi. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Mississippi. I am also a Board Qualified Supervisor for both licenses. I served on the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists for eight years. I have also worked at The University of Mississippi Counseling Center for 16 years. I am in the process of acquiring EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) Certification which is a type of therapy especially helpful with trauma. I have recently started working with sound therapy and I became a Gong Master in 2014.

I also practice mindfulness. In these stressful days we live in, I believe mindfulness can be a powerful path to realign our nervous systems back to normal. By practicing mindfulness, we allow ourselves not to be pushed around by stress and anxiety. I believe we can slow things down, see the situation more clearly and make better choices with the help of mindfulness training. I have the great honor of co-facilitating a Mindfulness Group at The Edison with Camp Best. Our group meets Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm and all are invited and welcomed to attend.

My counseling style is based around Narrative therapy. Narrative therapy believes that “people are people and problems are problems.” You are not the problem. With Narrative therapy, the goal is to separate from the problem and for you to see the skills and abilities that you possess to reduce, minimize and fix the problems that you may be encountering. It is a respectful and non-blaming counseling approach that believes you are the expert of your own life. We would work together to find those beliefs and faith, competencies and values that will help you cope with the troubles that you may face. I consider counseling a calling for me and I enjoy doing this work.

Some of my passions are Ole Miss football, reading a good book or watching a great movie, and getting to the beach on occasion. I especially like being in the country and listening to the sounds of nature. I have lived in Oxford, MS since 1985 and I love the hill country of North Mississippi and the people that live here.
